Our standard options include:

#1 yellow pine header: Mostly used as headers for smaller buildings with short spans.

Stocked sizes (Available in 2’ increments):

  • 2x4: 16’
  • 2x6: 10’ to 20’
  • 2x8: 10’ - 24’
  • 2x10: 10’ - 24’
  • 2x12: 10’ - 24’

Y.P. MSR header: Yellow pine that is machine stress rated (MSR) is often used where greater strength is needed on larger buildings and greater spans.

Stocked sizes (Available in 2’ increments):

  • 2x10: 12’ - 20’
  • 2x12: 10’ - 20’

Purlins: Our 2x4 purlins are made from spruce, pine, or fur (SPF) and fastened on top of the trusses running parallel with the ridge and roof eave and typically spaced every 2 ft. on center. This is in preparation for the fastening of the metal roof panels. Purlins are also required when installing metal panels over top of asphalt shingles (see picture above) to prevent the roughness of the shingles from rubbing through the painted underside of the metal over time, as the roof expands and contracts with the changing temperature.

Girts: Our 2x4 SPF girts are used to span the posts that make up the exterior walls of your post-frame building. They run horizontally and are usually attached 2 ft. on center to the outside of the posts. This is in preparation for the fastening of the metal wall panels.

LVL Header for Upgrades

Upgrade to LVL (Laminated Veneer Lumber) for your project. LVL is an engineered wood product that uses multiple layers of thin wood assembled with adhesives. It is typically used for headers and beams on larger buildings with long spans. Since LVL’s are made in a factory under controlled specifications, they are typically stronger, straighter, and more uniform than typical milled lumber. Due to its composite nature, it is much less likely to warp, twist, bow, or shrink, making LVL’s the ultimate strength-to-size ratio of any wood headers.

Stocked sizes (available in 2’ increments):

  • 1¾ ” x 9½ ”: 8’ to 48’
  • 1¾ ” x 77⁄8”: 8’ to 38’ and 48’
  • 1¾ ” x 14”: 8’ to 38’ and 48’
  • 1¾ ” x 16”: 8’ to 36’ and 48’
  • 1¾ ” x 18”: 8’ to 32’, 36’, and 48’
  • 1¾ ” x 24”: 16’ to 20’, 24’, 36’, and 48’
